Recognising young women achieving in the community

 

The Sally Isaac Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Sally Isaac Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 2009 and recognizes the enormous contribution Sally made to public life, especially to the lives of those in the community who were more socially isolated and disadvantaged.

The Fund aims to award an annual scholarship to further the education of a young woman (35 or younger) who makes a significant contribution to the Victorian community in the field of:

  • Local Government;
  • Social justice;
  • Aboriginal affairs and Reconciliation;
  • Arts and music;
  • Community health;
  • Culturally and linguistically diverse communities;
  • Urban Planning; or
  • The environment.

A partnership with the Australian Communities Foundation has allowed for the accumulation of funds to award an annual scholarship.

With the aid of successful fundraising, an educational scholarship has been awarded each year, enabling a promising young woman to benefit and as a consequence her community.

The Scholarship Award

The award is facilitated through Local Government Professional Inc (LG Pro) with the winner announced at the LG Pro’s annual Women’s Network Dinner which is usually held in July each year. The award, of $10,000 is open to eligible women in the Victorian community including those employed or involved in Local Government. Nominations must be supported by Local Municipalities to validate the nominee’s contribution to the Victorian community. Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents of Australia. The successful recipient will use the scholarship to further her education by undertaking a component of a relevant tertiary course within Australia or at an overseas educational institution.

ANNUAL EVENT - International Women's Day (IWD)

Each year, since 2009 the volunteer committee has organised the Sally Breakfast - a celebratory event on the IWD calendar. In 2017, the committee is taking time out to do some strategic planning. Watch this space for some exciting changes and updates to the fund!
